OpenSea is about to deploy its first Solana NFT launch using its brand new Solana Launchpad, according to its blog post.
As it stands, two projects are currently scheduled for launch: Zoonies and Monkai. Why is OpenSea heavily pursuing Solana projects and what does this mean for the Solana NFT space as a whole?
The OpenSea Launchpad for Solana
The new SOL Launchpad experience will enable developers to host a new mint from start to finish on OpenSea. The marketplace will assist creators in all pre-mint activities, whitelisting, as well as in post-mint and secondary sales.
OpenSea also hints that more SOL NFT launches are coming as it learns from the initial drops.
Interestingly, it’s been less than four months since OpenSea announced its support for the Solana network, starting with 165 collections and 865K total NFTs. That number has since increased with the addition of multiple projects. The apex NFT marketplace has also acknowledged Solana as among the “top blockchains for NFTs.”
And with Magic Eden‘s rising trend, having surpassed OpenSea in daily trading volume on more than one occasion, it only made sense that it had to pursue Solana NFTs, as it already supports Ethereum, Polygon, and Klaytn.
Meanwhile, Magic Eden has also been a rising star in the last few months, having raised $130M amid plans for multi-chain expansion. This can only mean that it is coming for the Ethereum network, OpenSea’s primary bread and butter.
It’s safe to say that both marketplaces are out to eat each other’s market share. According to data from DappRadar, OpenSea is currently in the lead with a 30-day trading volume of $507M, over 6x that of Magic Eden.

Zoonies is a Solana NFT project that aims to create an alien-themed ecosystem defined by solid branding and innovation.
